About Arvind Kamath
Writer/Director Arvind Kamath, was born and raised in Bangalore; He began his career in the IT industry. A Software Project Manager by profession, he quit his IT job to pursue film-making in 2008.
Arvind started making short films, and in the same year set up a post production studio working on film related projects which is now, “Pixel Garage Studios” with Arvind spearheading as the creative director. In mid 2011, he worked on his first feature length film “Innuendo” as a Writer, Producer, and Director. It was a Kannada language film.
Logline
Arishadvarga is a character-driven mystery thriller, about an aspiring actor doubling as an amateur gigolo, who opens Pandora’s Box when he seeks out an anonymous client who rewards him with a surprise gift, “A murder and a witness to his crime”. He now has to kill his witness to get out of it scot free.
Synopsis
“ARISHADVARGA” is the story of an innocent man, ANISH, trapped in a noir world, trying desperately to make it as an actor in the local film industry, while his miserable economic condition pushes him to double up as an amateur gigolo to make ends meet. He finds such an escape in an anonymous wealthy NRI client
where he is rewarded with a surprise gift, a murder. He finds himself framed in a murder that he didn’t commit with a witness who could testify against him.
But they escape, the police arrive and the dead man’s wife SHRUTHI, beaten up and bloody, comes out of nowhere and is dead set on accusing Anish of voyeurism and committing the murder for gains. And then there’s the middle aged police inspector ASHOSK KALBURGI, with his own code of ethics, determined to figure out what exactly happened to Shruti’s husband.
Director’s Intention
In Hindu theology, Arishadvargas are the six passions of mind or desire: kama (lust), krodha (anger), lobh (greed), moha (attachment), mada or ahankar (pride) and matsarya (jealousy); the negative characteristics which prevent man from attaining moksha or salvation. A fundamental tenet of Kali Yuga. In narratology and comparative mythology, the monomyth, or the hero’s journey is the common template of a broad category of tales that involve a hero going on an adventure, and in a decisive crisis wins a victory, and then comes home changed or transformed. But the so called heroes of Greek Mythology were a pretty selfish bunch, often with additional antisocial tendencies thrown into the bargain–in other words, not exactly role models for the younger generation of today. Through this story, my intention is to juxtapose the above myths, show a mirror to the classical myth of a hero and place a humble commentary that these six desires which ought to be fought actually make us more human, far from being a hero which is a convenient escapism.
