FAQ

+ What is the difference between Writing Lab and Fiction Development Programme?

Following 2018 Clinik.Kathmandu workshops dealing with fiction cinema have been categorised under the Fiction Development Programme.
Filmmakers with a professional background and a working script in hand can apply to the Writing Lab. The Fiction Development Programme will offer one year long support commitment to applicants selected in either the Writing Lab or the Regional Workshop.

+ How do projects progress in the One year process of Fiction Development Programme?

The Fiction Development Programme consists of several workshops and support ecosystems created on a need basis of projects after selection. Usually once selected, projects or individuals will be offered assisted support through professional experts or a position in another workshop where other aspects of the project can be further developed.

+ What is Distance Module ?

Under distance module support, filmmakers can stay home and find support in whichever aspects they have asked for from a professional expert.

+ Why does Fiction development programme have two segments as Skill Growth and Project Support, what is the difference?

Since the workshops began in 2014 we have received a wide range of applications. Although most applications we receive come with a ‘script’ not all applicants are prepared to take on professional feature film projects. This was also expressed to us during several consultations we conducted with filmmakers across the region.

As a solution we have designed two distinct focus within the Fiction Development Programme which provides special opportunities for filmmakers to work on projects or on their personal skills before taking on a project.

Filmmakers who select to be in the Skill Growth focus eventually mature to the Project focus process so it does work as a cycle of support provided.

+ On English language, academic qualification, fees and location.

Academic qualification is not a pre-requisite to apply to any Clinik.Kathmandu workshops. However we expect an applicant to be at least 20 years, and to have graduated High School.

Scripts, treatments or other documents brought to the program for consultation must be in English. Applicants must be able to speak and understand English without a translator.

All workshops are separately payable. Fees have been mentioned in the specific workshop segments for your information.

All workshops are held residentially at the Ehwa Arts Collaboratory filmmaker’s residency campus in Dhulikhel near Kathmandu, unless otherwise mentioned in the workshop brief.

+ Why are the Clinik.Kathmandu workshops so expensive?

We have heard this recently.

We want to clarify here that the usual cost of hosting an individual in the Writing Lab comes to around 1900 USD, however the workshop offers it at 350 USD. Basic calculation will tell you the loss we incur to make these workshops possible.

This cost variation is possible due to the several partnerships we maintain and due to the willing support of many of our collaborators that include our advisors too.
There are less than 10 workshops in the world offering similar support as Clinik.Kathmandu. We are the only one available specifically to South Asians and the cheapest.
